One reason I trust Grassley is, besides how he conducted himself during the Kavanaugh situation, was Patrick Byrne's blog at https://www.deepcapture.com/2020/10/finale-the-deep-states-hillary-clinton-bribery-blackmail-sting-the-maria-butina-rape-murder-gambit/.

There he claims he was effectively deputized by some members of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2006 to go after corruption. He specifically names Arlen Specter (dead) but he also says a couple of the people that were in the room are still in the Senate.

I believe Grassley was one of the people in that room. He was on the Senate Judiciary Committee then (I believe still is).
