Its just a ploy to make money. I dont have an i phone never have never would. I said long ago we should not be supporting a chinese company that is how the US was almost lost in the first place.
ting doesn't install any of their own software on the phone, so they don't have any hooks into your phone the way Google does with Android and Apple does with iOS. You get ability to make calls, SMS text messaging, and a data plan - and they have an approach to their plans that can be very economical. Also, you can get a minimum account at like $5 a month, which won't cost anything more if its not used. So it's economical to keep extra phones around (like, say, a phone that is just for the baby sitter to use when she's over)
So just use a phone sporting an alternative Linux phone OS (Ubuntu Touch is one - a number of others - go look at the PinePhone on YouTube and see how many phone OS are available for it to get an idea of how many are out there - there is even an Android that has had all the Google software stripped out of it)
would be good if mods would pin this because I think a lot of folks would be interested in looking for alternatives to Google Android and Apple iOS phones
Question is, where will it be made?

Hmm. What company would be the carrier?
there are various carriers, say, like ting
pick one you like, IOW
doesn't everybody buy smart phones these days that aren't tied to a specific carrier? geeze
Sorry, I meant what would be a trustworthy carrier not controlled by big tech? Ting is a subsidiary of Dish Network.

if they sell this directly themselves, then buyers will probably need to get setup for bitcoin
maybe they'll use other independent retailers too and folks that sell through ebay and such
