I’ve know about it for a long time, but I never really got around to looking into it. I could be wrong, but my understanding is basically that Q is trying to help the public & spread awareness about some really bad people who are doing some terrible things in hopes that they can put a stop to it. Now all of the sudden I’m seeing a number of Trump supporters talk bad and even being mad at Q. I’m just curious what Q really is and why some Trump supporters are mad at them now.

Q is a backchannel communications operation between President Trump/MIL and the American people. Less than 10 people know the full plan of the operation to unseat the Deep State from the United States government (and later other world governments). That less than 10 number comes from Q, very early on. ("You can count the people who have the full picture on two hands. Of those (LESS THAN 10 people) only three are non-military. " #60)
Think of it as the antidote for Fake News MSM. As a matter of fact, if the MSM did their job and actually reported the facts impartially, there would be no need for a Q operation.
Q cuts through the noise and challenges those who would listen to question the narrative being fed to them 24/7 by their TVs/Radio/Digital Media. We are the news now.
Why does Q have to sound like a broken haiku program? Why can't they come right out and say something straightforward? X is going to happen on MM-DD-YYYY?
Because of the sensitive nature of much of Q's content, the information communicated is often phrased as questions.
What is the Socratic Method?
Is it effective?
Is it possible to convey information that would otherwise be considered a breach of national security by asking questions that lead the reader to the same conclusions as an outright statement?
Q also has stated multiple times that "disinfo is necessary."
Patriotic Anons aren't the only ones reading Q drops. Remember that scene in Willy Wonka, where Veruca Salt's dad hires his entire factory to unwrap Wonka Bars in the effort to get a Golden Ticket for his spoiled daughter? The Uniparty swamp has folks parsing 8kun 24/7 to sow discord, slide discussions off topic, flood the boards with porn/gore/MuhJooz to try and keep us distracted.
If WE knew when habbenings would habben, then THEY would know, too.
Each MSM outlet has a handful of "Qanon experts" that they rely on to churn out a steady stream of hit pieces on Q. Ben Collins, Mike Rothschild, Travis View, et al. If you notice, there's always an "expert opinion" component to the 2000+ smear pieces out there.
Again, those pieces never focus on the actual content of Q's message, but rather highlight anon speculation. If they do talk about Q's drops, they'll pick the most nonsensical comms stringer they can find, and falsely lead the reader to assume all the drops are equally ridiculous.
