I've just realised that there are elements of Q info in Donnie Darko.

Does anyone know it well enough to make any links or am I reaching?

I think The Shining is related to Q--- not purposely or exactly, but I think some similar themes were being presented. The Overlook hotel (America) is housing a secret party of rich elites. It was built on an Indian burial ground. In their "gold room," Jack Torrance's paper money is "no good here." They require Jack to murder his own child.
