I don’t understand why but he basically said that his quitting removed a strategic piece from the plan and basically that it was over. Can anyone make sense of his reasoning? I fully trust this person but he’s speculating so just trying to wrap my head around the players here.

Just because he is former SpecOps doesn't mean shit. He is likely just as much in the KNOW as we are, meaning not at all.
My factual understanding is that Trump had (and still probably does have) 4+ different ways to play this. He can make executive declarations, FEMA, IA, and further enforce the EO that is already out on the table - both 13969 and 13848.
I don't think any single part of the plan did not have multiple contingencies. If the whole operation is real then it has been in the works too long to leave it up to any number of people being a necessity. I think their is even a contingency is Trump were to be assassinated, this was initially a military operation, they thought it out from the onset.
