I don’t understand why but he basically said that his quitting removed a strategic piece from the plan and basically that it was over. Can anyone make sense of his reasoning? I fully trust this person but he’s speculating so just trying to wrap my head around the players here.

Many of my friends are former special operations. They don't know jack shit. One friend is a high level intel guy (HUMINT/Interrogator for tier 1). I've literally had to walk him through Q for the last few months.
My uncle was a 20 year navy intel officer. He is oblivious to most things happening. Don't get me wrong, he knows all departments and divisions and chain of command, but he retired before the Patriot Act and he said everything is completely different since he has been in.
That's my point. Compartmentalization. When you're out you're out.

Also, my other family members that were former intel have a sworn oath until their death about any private matters, mostly classified. I can't get my uncle to tell me a damn thing about anything, haha!!!
