Building on that “knowyourmeme” link, I think it was brought by anons or ?? it was common gamer speak from WoW, used since before the 2015 founding of r/TheDonald on Reddit. (see response below).
kek or KEK is kind of the traditional way to say lol for many TD users.
It also became some kind of based Egyptian god reference, so if something good happens, you might hear someone say “KEK wills it.”
Watch the “you can’t stump the Trump“ videos on YouTube if they’re still up, from 2016. Hilarious, and also explain centipede.
Culture: It’s Trippy.
It wasn't "brought by" anyone. Its a very common meme for any gamer. It persists in any forum inhabited by any gamer, or anyone who inherited the term from any gamer over the past 15 years or so.
It exists solely due to the game World of Warcraft. That game has a gibberish translator to prevent direct communication between the two opposed factions that inhabit that world. When one side says "lol" the other side reads "kek" in their chat bar.
Since you’re answering questions, what are the 2 numbers at top, separated by a bullet point, in parentheses, right after one’s handle/user name? Is it a tally of number of comments I’ve posted & number of times I upvoted someone’s comment, or vice versa??

Edit: also thanks for the update – corrected.
