It wasn't "brought by" anyone. Its a very common meme for any gamer. It persists in any forum inhabited by any gamer, or anyone who inherited the term from any gamer over the past 15 years or so.

It exists solely due to the game World of Warcraft. That game has a gibberish translator to prevent direct communication between the two opposed factions that inhabit that world. When one side says "lol" the other side reads "kek" in their chat bar.
