Sad to say somehow I raised a raging liberal. Not that he isn't surrounded by other family members that agree, but still. Anyway, I fear we may be one of those Civil War households. I told him to keep it down (playing a video game God this post just keeps getting more depressing) and he had a meltdown about how Trump is a fascist dictator. Didn't think it was the time to send this Babylon Bee article LOL. https://babylonbee.com/news/dangerous-fascist-dictator-censored-and-voted-out-of-office If there's any good news in this story, I think whatever HE reads to get his information must be chock full of pure PANIC. Otherwise you'd think he'd be glad to be rid of Orange Man Bad in a few days.

Have to admit my husband and I were both gobsmacked by the disrespect. My kids are generally pretty respectful and we just don't really talk about politics anymore. This is the same statistician that the night of the election at 2 am told me he couldn't see how Biden could pull it out given the numbers. He added that he didn't want Trump to win, but wouldn't want him to get beaten because the other side cheated. So that's the type of dialog we have traditionally had on the subject.
When he went on about how if I'm tired of hearing him scream expletives he's just as tired of having to listen to Trump the fascist (which he doesn't, almost everything I do now is read or watch videos with my headset on), and live with people that could think he's "okay," I pointed out that he doesn't have to and maybe he should get his own place. I think he thinks I'm bluffing. Like Trump, though, I rarely if ever say things I don't mean. It makes me sad but I'm still resolute. Giving this one up to God.
Im just saying, if I behaved like that, my mom would knock me upside the head. ??
I was more afraid of Mom than my Dad.
Having a BPD mom with a non-existent fuse provided some interesting childhood memories. Good times. :)
That’s how it works though. Parents could raise a perfect child but it doesn’t matter because most good parents send their kids to state sponsored brainwash school.
The best gift a parent can give their child an education. So many of us have handed that responsibility to the government. It’s no surprise many young adults are unhinged.
it is incredibly difficult to move out when you live in liberal strongholds. cost of living is so high
agreed
It’s harder to move out anywhere anymore. The dollar doesn’t buy much and wages aren’t keeping up.
He'll be 25 this year
Nothing wrong with videogames as a hobby. I'm 24, married, and about to be a dad, and play games when I have free time. Games are a great medium for story telling and very rewarding. It's all about putting responsibility before fun though, just like with any hobbies.
I've heard this line from people who will gladly spend 5 hours on a board game, mowing their yard, building bird houses etc.
Yeah you can go fuck yourself.
Or you just learn to live with your differences and love your son no matter his retardation.
Agreed that he needs to move out. I don't think he's been babied altogether though. He's had a job since he was 16 years old, still excelled in school and worked all through college. He's working now. Neither of my kids were ever too proud to take manual labor jobs and they did them well. Now both working pursuant to their majors - Math/statistics (older) Computer science and logistics (younger).
Yeah, I'm going.to second.the comment from u/th3colon3l - time for some Dave Ramsey and some Jordan Peterson
I don't think so. He had a pretty steady girlfriend his senior year in HS and then through Freshman year in college but he broke up with her. His friends are all pretty normal hard working young people. We are in Chicago but in the most conservative ward in the City. The ONLY ward that voted Trump. Mostly police and fire. Still, being a conservative in Chicago is like being the tallest midget in Iowa, or whatever the saying is.
Most likely suspect: college=liberal I’m just thankful that my daughter chose military. She loves to tell people how she got her college degree for free!
Yes, i agree.
I'm 24 and have been married for 2 years, lived out of my house since I was 20, and have a kid on the way. The best thing that ever happened to me (besides having my parents be who they are, meeting my wife, or finding out I have a son) was having to pay my own bills. I grew up real quick when my dad he wasn't gonna pay my bills anymore since I had a job.
Yup. Seems to be the consensus.
WAY to old for a man-child to be at his parents' home.
I left home at 17.
Men only become men by being in the world on their own - without buffering.
A protected man-child will remain a man-child.
A man's strength of character comes in large part from parents who have the strength of will to overcome their own soft reluctance to push their loved children into the world's reality.
I am a woman, my parents paid for college and then I worked days and went to law school at night. That was a long three years - 5:30 am to 9:30 pm. I lived with my sister for awhile and we split rent in the city after her husband ditched her. During my last year of law school I moved in with my folks again until I got married shortly after graduation. Long time ago.
I never thought of sharing living space while people are saving up for their future as a huge crutch, I guess. Maybe it's different with men. They both work, and work pretty hard. They save their money, buy their own things - neither is extravagant in any way. Never turned down manual labor as beneath them which I was quietly very proud of, both excelled academically and a lot of those kids have huge entitlement thing. But still, I think given the recent attitude it might be time for some tough love.
That's a full grown man. Alexander conquered the known world by 25. No shit he's a liberal when he doesn't have to work for a roof over his head lol.
Its out of character because its literal brainwashing.
Ground your kid, take away video games for a week and give him actual homework on Trump vs media. Give him a list of things to go through with a quiz in the end. :p
He's almost 25. I will be a parent to him for the rest of his life. But he's a man now and it's time for him to man up.
Why allow people to scream expletives in your home, even if it's your kid? Not sure how old this 'child' is but he ought to be able to disagree politely. If you accept bad behavior you'll keep getting bad behavior. Think about where exactly you draw your line. He can scream expletives aloud, hopefully not AT YOU, right? (In other words he isn't cussing you out for your beliefs).
Yet, what if he did that next? What would your response be? And why isn't that your response now? I don't see a huge amount of difference between someone screaming expletives IN my home vs them screaming them at me, ykwim? Why allow that? I do agree you should probably avoid talking politics at all to avoid this type of thing in general. Good luck to y'all! Trump wins this!!
