Can you imagine? It's a containment area! Not a security perimeter! They can't NOT know! They must go! They have to be wracking their brains to find an excuse to not enter, but if they don't enter, they look guilty. It really is CHECKMATE!

Same reason our govt buildings hearken back to classical rome. Symbolic connection to the Old Republic, and the Old Civilization in the case of the obelisk. The more modern stuff is definitely signalling and black hats but I'm not so sure about the oldest. I'm no expert on the topic.
