I was thinking about this last week.

No Intel Weeks/months with no letters or word from loved ones AND, if you were in Britain getting the living hell bombed out of you daily during the Blitz

I have been thinking about this a lot! I've read a lot of novels, many based on true experiences, of what it was like for people all over the globe during WWll. Tears your heart out!
