No that's actually proper grammar, you put a comma before the persons name to indicate that is who you are speaking to. I do it all the time in work emails when I say something like 'thank you, Eric. Have an excellent day!" I'm not expressing that Eric sent the thank you, but rather the thank you is directed towards Eric.
