He sought economic and civil freedoms for "the Negro." For this "crime," MLK was assassinated.
It is a pity these words in his famed "I have a dream" speech, before an estimated 250,000 at the 1963 March on Washington, DC., were not heeded in the summer of 2020:
In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
