why would he want to protect the very people that betrayed the constitution?
To protect the tribunal judges and their families.
There are good judges out there, this enables them to do the right thing without added fear of repercussions to their families, and politically motivated litigation against them. It's a big deal, but its the kind of big deal that really should have happened on day 1. A last minute thing like this is kinda like... okay... coulda used that months ago
Because as whole, they are good well intended people. The shitty ones have been strategically appointed and will soon face the consequences of their corruption. This is intended to further protect the legitimate judges, prosecutors and law enforcement.
The thing going around during the leadup is that judges and their families were being threatened by Antifa if they didn't throw out the election cases. By increasing their protection, they will uphold the law like they were supposed to. If they were to view the cases, the evidence is conclusive of a cheat and they'd be forced to rule as such or else risk losing their job. If they throw out the case on a technicality, they can save face and appease Antifa. Its not great, but I think its realistic enough.
