And, sadly, it turns out to be a semi-racist reference. I didn't know until I started to research the term. It's origins lead also to the term "marooned." It has to do with slavery in the Caribbean. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maroons

Don't get me wrong. I love Bugs Bunny and the whole Merrie Melodies gang. Sidesplitting humor! But we need to understand words that are no longer in currency.
