most likely that helicopter is a "sniffer" that circles about and changes elevation frequently to get air samples for testing of biological or chemical agents in the air.
Don’t want to post my location but I’ve been hearing a circling helicopter for hours and hours the last 4 days in a row. That flight behavior is not typical for where i am.
It’s too far away to identify it. Helicopter traffic is a daily/nightly thing here. But never for hours at a time for days at a time. It’s mostly just police helicopters in transit. I mean what good is hovering in a helicopter for 16 hours a day going to do for anyone?

I saw a military helicopter fly over me on my way to work. I do live near an airforce base. O work at night. Eastern washington state. I also have been hearing helicopters all night.
