You're entirely right about Type 2 diabetes but Type 1 can't be reversed, no matter how much you try. It isn't about reprogramming your beta cells... You can't reprogram what is destroyed. Many people have a Honeymoon period when they are first diagnosed, where their body is still producing small amounts of insulin. There are ways to extend the honeymoon period, but once the beta cells are destroyed and insulin production stops, it's not coming back. You can make lifestyle changes and poasibly reduce the amount of insulin you need to inject, but you will always need some type of insulin.
I can understand the confusion if you don't have to deal with the disease every day. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
No, I don't believe that I'm smarter than anyone else. I live with this disease on a daily basis.
Can you point me to some scientific research about resurrecting beta cells and curing type 1 diabetes?
Edit: nevermind. I think I found what you're talking about. It could happen... They're all the way up to injecting stem cells into mice now, and it works sometimes. I'll let the diabetes community know that our cure is just 10 years or so away... For realsies this time, not like the last 30 years they've been telling us that.
