They were surprised when I said I had no plans to get the vaccine. They asked, "what if it were mandatory?" And I said, "then we'd have to have a serious conversation about that." The subject was changed quickly to something more light-hearted. But it seems like they're at least considering mandating a vaccine in order to work at this office. And if they do decide that, they'll be looking for a new manager for their shipping department.

Mandated vaccines make zero sense to me, if you get the vaccine and don't get sick great. By having it you lessen the chance to stop someone who doesn't from contracting it in the first place. If you don't have it and get sick, well then you use your sick time like we have for the last hundred years, then you get better or die. What you didn't do is pose any health risk to the people who got it so what right would a company have to mandate it?
Vaccines are self-defense mechanisms. You getting one (assuming it works and the side effects aren't that dangerous) doesn't protect anyone else from the virus (assuming it is real). It protects you and only you. People who are paranoid of getting an airborne virus can wear a face shield or stay aware from people. People who worry about burglars can install locks on their doors. People worried about tyrannical government can arm themselves with guns. Self-defense is the right of everyone to exercise or not, but nobody has any right to tell or force them how to do so.
They'll use the arguement that "but if you neglect your own health and do get the virus, then resources (hospitals, doctors, nurses, medication) are wasted on treating you, which could be used to help somebody else with a less avoidable issue." Just simply respond "this is why I pay for health insurance."
THIS EXACTLY!
It does protect other people though, that's how herd immunity works. Some people can't take the polio vaccine but since everyone around them takes it it's just not able to be transmitted.
