What an astute way to put it. "Corny is used to shut down sincerity and departure from the status quo." Thank you for that, a very eye opening description of how that word is typically used. And I agree.
I grew up amongst the black community and have experienced first hand how fear, poverty, and, yes, racism loop back into a mentality that is simultaneously trying to defend oneself and keep squeaky wheels from drawing attention.
Unguarded sincerity can be viewed as a way to let people take advantage of you or as a sign of an outsider who can betray you and yours.
It's fucking sad af and when they wake up, there's going to be a fucking reckoning.
I am familiar with that kind of culture as it was the culture I was involved with as a teenager. Your quote reminds me of this time, my friend Angel decided to join the baseball team. He came out dressed in his baseball uniform after the first try-out, and one of our other friends Justin was making fun of him about it. And my friend Angel got angry and he said "I try to do something to better myself and this is the reaction I get." It was exactly what you summed up.
Who gives af?

To add to that story- my friend Angel despite his anger, quit the baseball team and stopped trying out. It truly did hold him back.
That's a goddamn shame
I am calm but you're not.
You referenced corny, and 'that white people shit'
Those are value judgements.
Calm down, tyrone.
