To me, the biggest awakening was discovering the meaning behind phrases I'd heard or used. Not that the meaning was hidden, it just never "clicked".

"History is written by the winners". being just one of them.

You must have been gullible enough too to believe the good guys have won since the American Revolution only to find out all conflicts are bad vs. evil and no matter what history gets whitewashed.....
