This is the opposite of being thrown under the bus.
Think Good Fellas. Henry Hill went to prison because he would not squeal on the Crew. This bought him enormous respect from the Bosses.
When he did finally drop the dime, he avoided prosecution and put the Bosses in Jail.
This is how the feds work. They talk about it in the sopranos as well when big pussy gets arrested. They get them back out on the street as fast as they can so, wearing wires and shit, to catch people in the act.
Yeah not claiming it as fact, just spinning off the comment about goodfellas. When they get a rat they put them back on the street as fast as they can. Gives them less time to think about it and they put them right to work.
