Yes, it's been 25 years since I studied this, I thought mRNA was copied from the DNA (for which the DNA would have to be unlocked temporarily) and then goes out to the organelles which make protein (ribosomes) where, in this case, viral spike protein is produced. Is the basic DNA really modified in this process? The proteins expressed by the cells are.
