"The truth would put 99% of people in the hospital.
It must be controlled."
This is the part I disagree with. Rip the fucking band-aide off already. Enough of this slowly peeling it off so hurts even more BS. Just yank the dam thing off and be done with it.
Its often much simpler than we might think. For one thing Q is probibly exaggerating for effect. But there are other possibilities that would shock people. For example what if pharma in the past few decades found a way to extend human life or cure cancer etc... but whatever they found was hard to make so they kept it secret.
You hear all these people talk about some wacky drug made from children, ancedrome? What if that isn't the truth but half way there? What if they need something from aborted babies or grown adults or both to make this miracle life extending drug.
Worse... what if the real problem is that a drug exists that can triple a human life span the problem is it only costs 10 cents a pill to make and you only need one a day. The world population would explode and they can't make a profit off it easily so they hide it and keep it only for themselves. The Matrix is unlikely. A simple breakthrough like this is very believable and would be easy for them to conceal.
Now go a step further. Imagine for a moment that the Vatican has absolute undeniable proof hidden in their vaults that god doesn't exist. They have an Apostle's diary where he explains how it all started. What if all of the Abrahamic religions are just one big giant grift that has played out for 2-3,000 years. As an atheist I can imagine that possibility, but most Christians can't even imagine it. Think about how that would effect even a part time Christian that hardly ever goes to church. What about the true believers? It would wreck their whole world.
I guess what I'm trying to say is often the simple things are what effect us the most. The Matrix or They Live(aliens) while it would be shocking exactly because those movies exists people can and will wrap their heads around it. Its also very complicated and would be hard to hide. Even the most advanced technology will fail at some point.
Something simple like hiding the truth about religion or a science advancement is much easier to accomplish and relies mostly on nothing but simple human greed.
Then again maybe the earth really is flat and the moon landings were fake. :)
