Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained amid reports a military coup is underway in the country.
The National League for Democracy, Myanmar's governing party, said that Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in an early morning raid.
The move comes after days of escalating tension between the civilian government and the powerful military that stirred fears of a coup in the aftermath of an election the army says was fraudulent.
Spokesman Myo Nyunt told Reuters by phone that Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other leaders had been 'taken' in the early hours of the morning.
'I want to tell our people not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,' he said, adding he also expected to be detained.

The true tragedy of the Fake News world we live in, is that it's insanely difficult to learn anything about Mynamar. I am finding various articles but who knows what I can actually believe. Are the military there on the good side, the bad side, what does everyone stand for, what dynamics are at play? There's no true journalism, it's very sad.
I've been following Myanmar and Thai politics for close to 30 years because it's so weird and Western "Experts" are almost always wrong. Trying to get good information from US sources is a waste of time. Australian sources are better, but the only English language paper that I found worth reading was the South China Morning Post. Unfortunately, the CCP took it over in Nov 2019.
Mind dropping some knowledge, what's your opinion on what this means? What values do you assign to the military, the civilian leadership, etc? Your take?
I haven't been keeping up for the past 4 or 5 years, but here is what I remember.
The NLD is very corrupt. They are more interested in staying in power than anything else. Accusations of election fraud go way back. It appears that they are puppets of international globalist concerns who work to help keep them in power. The economy has improved a bit after they came to power, but that has stalled. Most of the other promises have not been realized.
The military is professional. They do not like being misused as they have in the past. They hate corruption. They want a strong Myanmar and know that governmental corruption is the largest impediment to a strong economy. It was a Thai economist who first proved this. I wish I could remember his name.
Btw, Myanmar has several ethnic groups and quite a bit of ethnic and religious tension. Plus they have some powerful drug lords in the north with connections to China. The military would prefer to spend its time eliminating opium production.
Your post and other information I'm gathering is giving me hopes that this is a very good sign for us. Would you say this is exciting news as it relates to Q and the US? Or would you guess this is just Mynamar military doing what they do.
Suu Kyi was a globalist puppet.
But she turned her back on them once she became leader. So they declared her an enemy.
This coup is likely globalist-backed. They’ve infiltrated and subverted our own military here in the US, if they can do that here, infiltrating Myanmar’s military must have been a piece of cake. The CIA and our SpecOps forces were probably instrumental in this coup.
Suu Kyi has always been a globalist puppet. She still is. The only people she turned her back on were the people who put her into power in the first place. The NLD is very corrupt.
I only remember her being portrayed as courageous and heroic in msm like Time. In retrospect that was prob as sign she actually isnt
Same here. Daily Mail is literally the only search result from an outlet I recognize. Which means that MSM has yet to cover it. If it continues like that, then we might have something.
