Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained amid reports a military coup is underway in the country.
The National League for Democracy, Myanmar's governing party, said that Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in an early morning raid.
The move comes after days of escalating tension between the civilian government and the powerful military that stirred fears of a coup in the aftermath of an election the army says was fraudulent.
Spokesman Myo Nyunt told Reuters by phone that Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other leaders had been 'taken' in the early hours of the morning.
'I want to tell our people not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,' he said, adding he also expected to be detained.

Mind dropping some knowledge, what's your opinion on what this means? What values do you assign to the military, the civilian leadership, etc? Your take?
I haven't been keeping up for the past 4 or 5 years, but here is what I remember.
The NLD is very corrupt. They are more interested in staying in power than anything else. Accusations of election fraud go way back. It appears that they are puppets of international globalist concerns who work to help keep them in power. The economy has improved a bit after they came to power, but that has stalled. Most of the other promises have not been realized.
The military is professional. They do not like being misused as they have in the past. They hate corruption. They want a strong Myanmar and know that governmental corruption is the largest impediment to a strong economy. It was a Thai economist who first proved this. I wish I could remember his name.
Btw, Myanmar has several ethnic groups and quite a bit of ethnic and religious tension. Plus they have some powerful drug lords in the north with connections to China. The military would prefer to spend its time eliminating opium production.
Your post and other information I'm gathering is giving me hopes that this is a very good sign for us. Would you say this is exciting news as it relates to Q and the US? Or would you guess this is just Mynamar military doing what they do.
I think it is. What most people don't know is that the Myanmar military had a series of internal conflicts and possibly purges around 2011. These were focused on eliminating corruption. The current military is the result. But political corruption plagues all parties and Chinese manipulation runs deep. Will have to wait and see.
