If SHTF then the dollar becomes worthless. Barter will be the order of the day, and precious metals will be king.

If SHTF for real and society collapses, non-perishable food will be king. Anything you can't eat will become worthless, including precious metals.

Either way, any asset valued in dollars, including stocks, will be worthless.

Think of gold, silver, food, and lead as an insurance policy rather than a speculative investment.
