My roommate actually worked in anti-trafficking years ago, and I can't even get him to believe any of this.

That's absolutely it. My Dad is a lifelong liberal and although he's quite smart and even questions some things (woke culture, etc) he just CANNOT get too far away from what he reads in "trusted sources."
