Never noticed it before... but the gear icon has a pretty clear "Q" in it lol

On sprockets like that isn't there a sort of rectangular metal "key" that would be fitted into that notch?
Oh, that's indeed legit (i.e. not just a photoshop... sorry to even have doubted you for a second, OP).

So can any aviation-ists or graphic artists explain this artwork decision... or is this patently just an awesome, clear-cut (if subtle) case of base? ?
Not trying to be mean here but...You're only the 1,000,000th person to point this out
My bad, i honestly hadnt seen anyone post it yet, I must have missed it.
First for me as well. They may be exaggerating a tad.
Planefagging just got even a little better!
Who runs the website? It could easily be a troll. If this is connected to someone on Trump’s team...what would it mean?
I already posted that! :) Yeah pretty cool.
No. Just no.
There isn't some hidden underlying 'Q' nor [17] reference in anything and everything, and if you're recognizing that more than normal than it is simply a byproduct of selection bias (e.g. Baader–Meinhof phenomenon)
This is a gear, and nothing else.

They made the choice of having it go to the right instead of the left. Not a conspiracy. It keeps it from also looking like a pirate's wheel, and they aren't going to have that cut completely vertical because it would not be as graphically oriented. You'd have spokes going to the left and right, as a gear might balance in such a manner, but they're clearly having it aligned with the buttons.
This is not a 'Q' related website, it's literally a flight tracker. Q has nothing to do with flight tracking.
If Q is military intelligence, I personally hope they would have at least something to do with flight tracking.
It could get wild in the skies without it.
But them not wanting it to look like a pirate wheel is obviously the answer as to why there is a Q looking symbol in the center.
That's just how some gears work.
When you put a rod with that kind of profile into the gear it'll actually spin the gear. A round rod would not.
so like the very first gear that is mounted to the engine itself, would have this extra cutout so the rod slides in and thus the engine can turn this gear?
Interesting
What i am curious about is, did they add this recently, because i noticed it immediately today and I never noticed it before.
It's one of two ways (that I'm aware of) to work gears. One is using a gear, one is using a rod. Gears need to be "tuned" to each other so they won't jam, so a rod is easier.
I don't know if there's any standard way to use them though.
No clue, sorry.
