Everyone goes into flat earth looking to mock and laugh at it. Then they hear and see the arguments for themselves. The reason flat earthers are increasing isn’t stupidity. It’s because the two main ways to “debunk” it are ad hominem (calling flat earthers names, which is primarily the form of argument in this thread, even by the “based and red-pilled”) and appeal to authority (“look at this CGI rendering by NASA you idiot!”). Anyone who kneejerk thinks all flat earthers are stupid either hasn’t looked into it in any detail or has only looked into the corporate media and shill nonsense, like Netflix documentaries and The Flat Earth Society.
That said, I understand why this triggers people so much (questioning the moon landing is also a big trigger), and I think it is fair that flat earth theories be separated from Q in the same way Q is separated from The_Donald.
Great summary of it. Yeah you go into flat earth to debunk it to prove it a big pile of shit. And then a week or two later you come out going, the fuck is this? Am I a flat earther now? Happens to everyone who is openminded enough to entertain the idea of them being lied to since birth...
I think most people haven't taken an actual weather and climate class to understand how cycles work on the planet relative to the sun. It changed my entire perspective. For example, how can a flat earther explain the sun setting earlier in the winter and staying lighter later in the summer? But places that are higher latitude stay darker longer. Think about Alaska's long dark winters for 22 hours. That doesn't happen in countries near the equator. That gives us a good perspective that the earth is sphere shaped with climate cycles relative to the sun's position of the earth that have happened for 100s of millions of years like clock work.

Interesting questions. I know that Rob Skiba has done some modelling work on seasons on the flat earth model.
