Are we sure about that? Why would there be a "viewing platform" in front of the White House? For the Inauguration? That was in front of the capitol which is a mile and a half away.

For the parade, usually. They built it prior to January 6th in anticipation of a normal Inauguration. Don't know why it's not down by now, probably just lazy.
