Not to give too much away, but I live close by. Cherry point has had F35s in the air more than usual, I've been woken up by H53s the past couple weeks, when this is extremely rare. They have a courtesy to the public to be quiet after certain hours, but it's been nonstop lately. H46s used to be stationed here, and we still work on a couple, but they have been all over the place too.
Camp lejune and Cherry point both have been doing a shit ton of EOD (explosive ordnance) training too. Sunday was booms all damn day.
EOD training isn’t what you’re hearing. It’s artillery. EOD will sometimes do controlled detonation of UXO to clear a range after the other guys roll through though. Lejeune isn’t big enough for much else as far as EOD is concerned. 29 Palms is where the action is.
My dad was in 2nd EOD company in Lejeune and was stationed at Cherry Point when I was a kid. They do blow stuff up at an explosive range and I did it. My dad got me out of class in 2nd grade to blow something up.
