It is I their job description. It falls under "support and defend the U.S. Constitution from ALL enemies, both Foreign and Domestic." It also falls under their purview as the ONLY U.S. military Branch that is Constitutionally mandated and obligated to round up and arrest traitorous insurrectionists. The U.S. Army and NG don't have that clause. They're activated for logistical support only.
And if anybody tries to claim the Kent St. debacle as an example of USA/NG being Constitutionally mandated for such an action like that, they were never supposed to be allowed for that purpose. It was a sketchy, scared soldier that opened fire. And it was illegal for him to do so. They never should've been there in the first place.
