Don't take this clown show as a lesson in impeachment. This is a joke and way outside the bounds of Constitutional specifications. In a normal process, the actual impeachment occurs in the House. They vote on Articles of Impeachment by simple majority. The Senate then conducts the trial and votes to convict or acquit by a two thirds majority. If convicted, the President is kicked out of office and disqualified from holding any Federal office again. This current process is a sham because the person being tried is not even in office supposedly.
