All I was trying to say, jokingly, is that if that picture truly represents the racial and gender makeup of today's military, then maybe white men are actually under-represented. Because there are only so many billets. One group goes up, another goes down.
Yes, there are/were institutional barriers that have historically limited minorities and women's participation in the military. Women and minorities have stepped up WHEN THEY COULD, but even now, with most institutional barriers gone (for example, women in combat), wouldn't you expect the military to be 50/50 male/female? But it's not, it's more like 80/20 at best. And that's okay.
I know. I've administered diversity recruitment programs as a civilian. No matter how hard an institution tries to be representative, you cannot control personal preferences.
I didn't and would never downplay any military member's service or family sacrifice. Or engage in one upsmanship, but you brought up your family's servce first. Likewise, I don't appreciate you downplaying the Medal of Honor.
