hello, im watching the impeachment trial for the past 4days and i have a question on my mind on these kind of proceedings. Since im not from US, im not very familiar with legal proceedings in US so if there are GA users that are (perhaps someone who is studying law or even a lawyer) is there any kind of appeal possible for DJT team like appeal to supreme court or something like that if DJT was convicted and impeached? Would the case by over?
Edit: Thanks for all the answers made some things clear to me, going to research this a bit more.Very interesting stuff.
This is not a normal trial. They use any rules they feel like, and expect they will never be held accountable. (Same thing happened at the Nuremberg Trials, BTW).
There is no appeal, since the courts have previously ruled that impeachment is a "political" matter and not something the courts should be concerned with -- at all.
Now, OTOH the SCOTUS is scheduled in another week or so to consider (only consider) taking up some of the election fraud cases. If (a big IF) those cases end up being heard and they find that the election fraud nullifies the election or overturns it, then all hell will break loose and we will see what happens.
Also possible for military tribunals to step in. But as of right now, it is a shit show and Trump's lawyer team screwed the pooch.
Please elaborate. I thought it went well. Did I miss something?
I think an appeal might be possible, given that the Constitution was not followed. Essentially, the case would be tried as claiming the alleged impeachment was an unconstitutional act in violation of Trump's constitutional rights under the 5th, 6th and 14th amendments. He might even be able to sue the House Representatives for violating his 14th Amendment rights. Now THAT would be FUNNY!
But this is all bizzaro-world stuff because no one has ever ventured to act as irresponsible and ridiculous as the Dems have.
