I've seen photos online and it's heartbreaking. These children have been so badly abused and terrorized that it results in black, swollen eyes.

To be specific, the act of adtenochrome harvesting is what apparently causes the panda eyes.

They allegedly go in through or near the eyes and it causes an internal hemorrhage that makes blood pool under the skin around the eyes.
