TDLR; I'm preparing to be able to go 1 year without hitting the grocery store.
People, if you have kids, please get organized for a pretty rough time. We have a convergence of crises, which can make life rough for a while. We are now in a historic solar minimum. That's going to disrupt agricultural output significantly. China is expecting Biblical flooding this spring, which is likely to wipe out as much as 25% of some of their staple crops. If we combine this with conflicts and raising energy prices, we can definitely see supply chain disruptions.
My intention is to have a year of food on hand for my family at all times, and then rotate through the food. I'm surprised how easy and inexpensive it can be. I got about 2 months of storage food and then bought bulk grains, pasta, beans, etc from https://www.webstaurantstore.com/.
I then bought spirulina and protein powder for the family enough for 2 months. My thinking is derived from thinking about the families who lived through WWII. If I was a year away from an event like WWII, what would I do now to prepare?
- food
- bug out plan
- community
- 2A gear
- light, 1st aid, tools
- Fuel and generator
- Ham radio
- printed maps with off-freeway routing
- silver coins
It doesn't affect me at all if everything stays cool and there are no problems at all. We will just consume it and rotate the stores. If SHTF, there will be wild mobs fighting over supplies and we'll be able to operate strategically.
I've stored food and water in abundance, but I've gone one step further: I'm pigging out while watching the Show and I've added to my survival chances by storing fat like a bear before hibernation.
Excellent idea
Yea....not sure you're doing it right :). Our most likely threat is round 2 of the bioweapon. As Gates said, the next one will be 10 times worse. That dude would know! He helped fund the current weapon.
So, I am pretty sure that nutrition and health are more important than stored food (or fat :) ;) )
I may be wrong but my last meal will include as much as I want to eat plus dessert. Also, a defense against any illness is to have enough meat on my bones. I'm good.
FWIW I put on weight in preparation when I saw the 'rona coming in Jan/Feb last year. Then I caught it in Mar/Apr and lost the weight again, I hadn't realized at the time how low the death rate is. I know most people don't have the 'rona badly, but I did and was ill for 12 days so it worked out.
I am not sure about that. I know that the US was doing gain of function research under Herr Fauci until it was time for human trials. Further, it seems that Fauci then directed US funds to do gain of function research in Wuhan. further, it seems that the lab in Wuhan was doing research into bat coronaviruses.
I do not know how one can conclude that this was not a bioweapon. Maybe it was not intentionally released, but it seems that it was intentionally created.
Please educate me if I'm wrong.
OK - I see where you and I are in a bit of disagreement. I am considering the weapon's primary purpose to be direct depopulation, but the secondary purpose to provide China with a strategic advantage by disrupting the US politically and economically. I believe the Chinese have been working on a structure of "total warfare" for quite a while, in which they seek to weaponize every part of life.
I heard this before ??♀️ I am stocked up from all the other times I was told to stock up the storm is coming, it’s here.....
oh my bad....missed it. need more coffee.
I had that as #4 above. I'm pretty concerned about my inadequacy in this area - everything I have can be operated in a single hand. I'm hoping for a chance to add a bit in this area.
I don't have a year but several months worth and some stuff in case we need to go off map but I don't think that will happen.
Don't forget formula for those who have infants, powdered milk for small children, canned evaporated for cooking, chicken and beef bouillion for pasta/rice if you have nothing else for flavoring. Salt, pepper and other seasonings and condiments. We stocked up on roastbeef and gravy, tuna, canned chicken, beef and pork, vienna sausages, beef stew, chicken n dumplings, canned salmon/mackeral, ravioli, potted meat, devilled ham, and other canned meats. Rice, pasta, beans, oatmeal and other grains. Then basic vegetables in cans. I also bought (now they are out for the season) garden seeds to go with the seed I saved from last years garden. The only thing I don't have is seed potatoes. If nothing happens, and I pray it doesn't, then I have food saved that will help on our grocery bill plus extra toilet paper and cleaning supplies, bath and health aids.
Preppers gonna prep... For the most part it is just a relatively harmless hobby and waste of money, so no worries.
Pro Tip: arresting a bunch of pedos and leftist morons will not shut down our power grid or force grocery stores to close. So go ahead and pack your houses full of beans and rice - as for me, if I run out of something I will just go to the store and buy some more... to each his own.
Not a waste of money if food prices go up. The point is to rotate through your stores and eat what you buy. Not let everything expire waiting for SHTF.
Am curious if this is different this time, or the same hype we heard about Y2K? Lots of urgency then about “stocking up” and it turned out to be a nothing burger. While I do have survival food on hand, am wondering about all the rest of it.
It's a really good question. For every 1 real crisis, there are at least 10 crises that did not materialize. I have to tell you, however - history does have enough very deep, tragic crises to make it worth preparing.
I think it's less than 3% likely that I will need these supplies. The most likely scenario is that food choices become limited and are much more expensive.
I just really like what happens as a result of having this reserve. Should a mild crisis come, I won't even notice it! Let's say the hack of our power grid results in a week without power, for example. I'd go through that like it's nothing. Even, God forbid, a month of power disruptions - still fine!
My goal is to be in a place where I can operate strategically in time of crisis. i won't have nearly as much urgency whatever comes.
Thanks, Pilgrim ... all this is worth thinking about.
everybody who laughed and said we were crazy were crying that they had no toilet paper after the first two week of shut down.
Focus inward. You are prepared. You did the right thing by letting them know. Their opinion does not matter. Only your own opinion of your sanity does. Much love fren. Truth always wins
Binute!!!!
My fren !!
Presently, we do not have any meaningful supply chain disruptions. If it's true that the 3 Gorges Dam is going to be overwhelmed this spring, and if we are about to be hit with a brutally cold couple months, things could get expensive. I honestly do not expect STHF, but no one in Europe in 1929 had any clue what waited them a few years down the road.
