Sounds like we were in the neighborhood around the same time. Maybe we slunk past each other while not making eye contact New York style. I agree with you re DC and the groupings of affiliated businesses. It's weird that people usually don't mention that Politics and Prose, THE political bookstore in DC is in the same complex as Comet Pizza.
That's crazy about the pedo swirl. I didn't know about this sort of thing back then so I wouldn't have noticed it. The graffiti in that area was super weird though. Looking through the pictures you posted the stylized "pizza" triangles that the shop has stenciled along the top of the building remind me of the Pope's outfit during International Youth Day (https://tonyodarg.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/pr6idfhdvfiz_320x180.jpg). His boylover symbol is stylized in the same way.
I've been right by EmmySquared but I never noticed it specifically or went in so I can't comment too specifically. I'm afraid I was a pretty bad New Yorker and spent most of my time there wishing that I did not live in New York. I think you are onto something with that logo though. It for sure merits further investigation.
