This theory isn't that far fetched and I'm not even sure it would take "mythical" computers and "advanced" AI.
Since smartphones began our every movement, conversation, web search, text ... virtually any action one could imagine has been tracked.
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
How difficult would it really be to develop software that can reliably predict YOUR next action?
Your next word?
Your next thought even?
How many computers would it take to make said predictions for one person?
How many for 7 or so billion people's next action?
From there it would build exponentially. All they have to be able to do is reliably predict the next action of a person and then repeat that same function over and over again to reliably predict what's going to happen.
