As much as I love the sentiment, which I agree with 100%, one point of factual clarification.
The distance between them separated by the Bering Strait, is 50 miles, not 2.2. Proof: I lived in Alaska for 11 years, it is common knowledge up there. Many of the military stationed at Elmendorf AF Base in Anchorage, or Eilson AF Base, or Ft Wainright (both in Fairbanks) have done stints on the Bering. It is common to hear the stories of them stairing at Russians through binoculars and scopes, Russians stairing back. I heard a couple times on holidays, like July 4 and Christmas, they would put on a fireworks show for our boys, waving an American flag on their side. This was all late 80s, early 90s.
