When it first fell it looked like balls of styrofoam.. they would bounce off of you and not melt. When I would crush it in my hand it would just gather together and not even make my hand wet. I cleaned my car of it and there was a some powder film over everything, I could collect it on my finger. I might just be over analyzing it but I’ve seen a fair amount of snow storms and this shit is weird.

I'm in New York too. First snow was light and fluffy, small flakes. Then larger flakes, still fluffy. Then sleety stuff, not real sleet as it wasn't wet enough. More like granuals. We don't get it a lot, but it's also not rare. Sometimes when it's super cold, snow won't melt right in your hand. That's why it's called powder.
As for planes, no more than usual, but fewer today due to weather. Last night was clear and happily there were fewer super high twinklers than aren't stars moving around.
