This is called framing.
He exists in a different reality than you do. You are both competing over which worldview should be legitimate.
He's telling you that your worldview is illegitimate. He's doing it calmly, but he's still trying to explain how the world works as he sees it.
His worldview is need on a bunch of concepts they aren't true. But if you push on those, he'll just discount your ideas as false.
