This is the first Sunday in Lent for most Christians (many have a different lenten period which starts in a few weeks) https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2021/02/21/the-first-sunday-of-lent/
See you tomorrow.
Lent isn't for another two weeks, it starts March 8th ? Feb 22-24th is the Jonah's fast though.
Perhaps you know of something I do not. For Christians, lent began last Wednesday, Ash Wednesday. It lasts 40 days in recognition of Jesus' 40 days in the desert as he fasted and was tempted by Satan.
The commenter may be referring to the Orthodox calendar. I believe Easter for them is later than Easter for Catholics and Protestants.
Lents always began a week after the Jonah's fast, I think ash Wednesday is some Catholic holiday or something we don't have that. I am Orthodox part of the true Church, part of the faith taught from the apostles.
I did not know there are different lenten periods among various Christian denominations. For the roughly 2 billion protestants and Catholics in the world, lent began last Wednesday. For the Coptic Church (and perhaps some others), with 10 million members worldwide, lent is indeed shorter than the 40 days leading up to Easter. Thanks for teaching me something, Sophia.
Its just not Copts, its Oriental and Eastern Orthodox we are on the same lental period. Oriental Orthodox is Coptic, Armenian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Syriac (Both Jacobite and Indian Orthodox Church) then you have the Eastern Orthodox which I can't remember all of them but I know of Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Greek, Antiocian, and the Orthodox Church of America (which I think is under Russian jurisdiction) But anyways, March 8th is Lent for us and Easter is May 2 then we have the 50 days after that there is no fasting (except normal Wed/Fri) because we are in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.
Here in Greece - a Christian country - Lent begins in three weeks time. (Greek Orthodox calendar.)
