I noticed a lot of Gab users are dead set against Parler. Could it be they got all the Parler users when it went belly up and now don’t want to lose them since Parler’s return?

I think that's exactly what is happening. I dislike all media platforms like that but think Gab is better than Parler ever was

Doubtful(Parlers user 'agreement' isn't exactly privacy friendly for one).

Besides what they got of new users from Parler is at best a single digit percentage of what they got from the great Twitter emigration that came after nuking Trumps account....
