Personally love their music, but the timing of their announcement as well as the theme of the video was a bit odd

Was able to sleep on it, and I remembered this VC article which references Daft Punk and The Weeknd:

I'm really into electronic music, but honestly only ever got into DFs earliest works. Not a huge fan. I won't say it's because I didn't like their music, but it never really caught my ear.
I was 100% serious (but also tongue in cheek) about Boards of Canada's importance. The BoC community has been deep-thinking about the alien / weird nature of their music for years. They used samples that say "the past inside the present" 20 years ago. Many of their tracks work just as well backwards as forwards. Their tracks work inexplicably well when played forwards and backwards simultaneously over each other:

They have an entire album (from 2013) that is a palindromic experiment:

I firmly believe in their authenticity as messangers, and their lifestyles, and messages, lead me to believe they're good guys talking about dark times.
And on a non-coincidence / coincidence note, I recently started playing around with recording "bootleg dj mixes" using youtube live streams and simple media player instances of songs (which ends up with a few buffering flaws, and if you know anything about DJing, makes it impossible to pitch control or even queue mix tracks) that have turned out eerily good if you consider the tech used. I've called them Time Traveler Theatre and I'm starting to believe in the title I won't self promote, but you can find them on YT searching for "asciigod".
