If you buy gas, and the price has gone up 10x, you notice that, and decide accordingly.
WTF is this, though... what notice did people have that their electricity price was many multiples higher on one day than it was on EVERY SINGLE DAY PRIOR?
Complete and total fraud, this.
Class action? Surely they can't just charge whatever the fuck they want to without warning people once the magnitude of the fluctuation crosses some large threshold?
The power people did use was priced at $1000/kwh.
So for most people who use normal daily usage could had been charged $60 per day, and given how cold it was could have easily used double normal electric per day.
A dryer or washing machine alone usses 1kwh (1000 watt for an hour)
Buying new clothes would be cheaper
Exactly the problem we have now. Power follows supply and demand and when there is no supply and lots of demand the price goes up, in Texas case, it spiked to $1000 per kwh. That's what the energy companies had to pay the power plants. Now they are trying to figure out how to absorb the cost into bills over the next several years to pay for it.
China. First you freeze them out with weather they've not dealt with before, then you charge them massively for heat they did NOT have during the bad weather. It is a type of mind control that China will use by repeating a narrative that they had heat during the ice/snow storm; when we all know they didn't. Another reverse psychology scheme.
The corrupt continue to seek out new frontiers of corruptitude. They're on the cutting edge of wickedness and they show no sign of letting up. You gotta tip your hat to anyone with the balls to type a response like that and hit send. Wow!
As I understand it, people signed up with a wholesaler to save a few bucks over what the local utility was charging. When the failures happened, the wholesale price skyrocketed and they were no longer protected / insulated by the local utility that they had departed from.
With the Pandemic going on, people are too confused and upset to think straight and massively complain about the power price.
But we will wake up to it soon....
In Texas you can buy power at a flat rate, which stays constant throughout the year, or you can go with a variable rate, which puts you at the mercy of the commodities market.
