I think the best way to start with normies and liberals is to explain/show them that the media is owned by six corporations who have consolidated every other company underneath them. People all over the political spectrum seem to accept this, and as soon as you say “corporations”, liberals are already primed to hate them. But I think the biggest misconception normies have is that when they watch CBS, then read Time Magazine, then open up The Washington Post, then turn on a movie, they think they are getting information from all these different independent sources, when really it is all these same six corporations.
