Its far more likely that they just latched onto this story because he's so famous. They more often than not don't need to fabricate a story by attempting murder in order to distract the masses. Things like this happen every few days anyway. All they have to do is decide to draw attention to it and ignore XYZ that is bad for them. Then all the YouTubers (at least in the view of the MSM) look stupid talking about the "non-story" XYZ. All the cool kids are talking about the car wreck.
That's the problem though(for the MSM anyway). The YouTubers no longer look stupid in the eyes of the public... We are the news now... The MSM just hasn't completely caught on yet that they no longer control the narrative. The ones that have are yep... trying to destroy the YouTubers before they become like Crowder where they can no longer be easily destroyed. ITS NOT WORKING. Thus the increase in PANIC.

EDIT - PS - In another post someone talked about seeing a logo from the golf course on the car. That means it was probibly borrowed. Highly unlikely they could just take over control of a random car. That type of thing takes planning.
