I think you overestimate what it takes to print money and underestimate his drive.
You can't discredit what he did for redpilling masses of fanboys with his attacks on the establishment. Sure, it could be controlled opposition, but given what I've seen about his behavior I find that exceedingly unlikely.
Also, there are other multi-billionaires that rose from total obscurity and that are obviously good people.

For one, his title of "richest man alive" is relative; realistically, he is not the richest man alive at all, probably.
For another, the DS seldom operates in the same kind of scale of wealth as that anyway. They get their fill, to be sure, but why isn't Obama the wealthiest man, or Clinton? Their money-making is a side thing, their real objective and actions are to seize raw power, not just monetary.
For another, USD isn't exactly the best metric of wealth.
Really, if you set out to get filthy rich, and you had the right ideas and both had enough intelligence and work ethic to execute, you could do that.
That said, if you openly cross the Deep State on your way up, they may consider cutting you down at the knees.
I'm fairly certain that Musk is on the right side.
There may be some optical discrepancies, but for those one should try to consider the circumstances that he is in.
Can you trust anybody when you're one of the most famous, wealthy and competent people alive?
Can you 100% circumnavigate evil when just flapping your eyelids impacts thousands upon thousands of jobs?
Can you 100% circumnavigate evil when you're trying to help the species?
If I ever see anything conclusive about him being another crook I'll be the first to condemn him in the harshest manner.
But so far I haven't seen anything bar disinformation aimed at annihilating an existential threat.

Or he had a lot of tesla stock that rose to insane levels in the past 2 yrs.
Also consider that in early days of SpaceX one of his rockets was destroyed by laser. Deep state players were definitely behind that one.
