You misunderstood what I mean by blank space. I didn't mean the text " ", I actually meant there's nothing to see there. That means that any post with emopepescroll or emoconfused ends up looking empty if it's plastered across all the replies in the board. I'd have no clue that it was ever there if someone used emoconfused in reply to my post, which would completely change how I reply to that person because I might not know that they were confused, or that there was excitement in a particular post if they used emopepescroll.
The alternative is to enable the gif emojis which would induce motion sickness each time I browsed the board with said gif emojis.
And as for using an alternative background image, that's a lot of work to get the gifs to stop. Is there no other way to stop the animation?

Alright. Would you please upload static versions to this site with URLs so that we could point to them?
GIMP is a great alternative, free and open source too
No worries, I got off my backside and uploaded 3 of 5 the gifs myself:
[href="/u/#emopepedance"] { background-image: url(https://media.greatawakening.win/post/ov5zyH5g.png); }
[href="/u/#emopepescroll"] { background-image: url(https://media.greatawakening.win/post/MCoBe3Yi.png); }
[href="/u/#emoconfused"] { background-image: url(https://media.greatawakening.win/post/zj6PdULy.png); }
May I please have the URLs for emopepeshades and emogethelp for the sake of those who want no emoji gifs?
Edit:
